Big-5 Country in the Waterberg
PulaHouse sits in Welgevonden Game Reserve, part of the Waterberg UNESCO Biosphere: sandstone ridges, open savanna, and river country where animals have moved for millennia.
When the weather allows, you can plan up to two game drives a day—most often in the hour or two after sunrise and before sunset, when the bush is busy and the light is kindest. Outings use the open Land Cruiser and are arranged locally. Self-driving is not permitted in the reserve.
This is Big-5 country: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo, with more than 65 other mammals and 300+ bird species. The reserve maintains an official species list on welgevonden.org.
In practice, the richest moments often come from patience—quiet approach, and letting the day find its own pace.
