Travel, gates, and settling in

Main gate and driving time
Guests are typically met and picked up at the Welgevonden Main Gate, roughly three hours from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on paved roads under normal conditions. Self-driving is not allowed inside the reserve. After you enter Welgevonden, we take care of driving on the property and to game drives.

West gate
Sometimes it is simpler to be picked up at the Welgevonden West Gate instead. Tell us when you are planning transfers and we can help line that up.
Shuttles
We can connect you with private shuttle services between Johannesburg, Pretoria, and the relevant gate, so the road portion of your trip is easier to book.
Flying in
Unique Air runs flights to the main Welgevonden airstrip three times a week, which can pair well with a road transfer on the other leg or suit guests who prefer to shorten the drive. Their schedules, Safari Link routes, and other charter options are outlined on their services page.
Groceries
The lodge is hours from the next proper grocery run, so guests bring their own food for the full stay. We are happy to share shopping lists and suggestions for how to shop and pack sensibly before you come.
Once you are in the reserve
After you reach Welgevonden, our team members handle driving on the property and to game drives. The same care extends to daily housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation with the provisions you have supplied, so the rhythm of the house stays calm and guest-focused.
Good to know
- The area is regarded as malaria-free, which most guests find helpful when they pack and plan.
- Water comes from a borehole on the property and is fit to drink. All electricity is from solar, with enough capacity for normal lighting, refrigeration, and charging the way you would in a well-run household.
- PulaHouse sits unfenced in the wild; the team is close by on WhatsApp and on site to help you move about safely, especially at night. Your in-house guest guide has the finer detail.
